THE MARK RUBEL MEMORIAL FUND

Mark Rubel’s influence extended far beyond the classroom, shaping the lives of countless aspiring musicians and songwriters. His passion for music, recording, and education left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of learning from him. In fact, the very first G&KF retreat was held in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, during a weekend break from one of Mark’s classes. Many of his students from the Blackbird Academy—a school he helped bring to life—volunteered their time, assisting with set-up, audio recording, and even playing in the band.

Mark’s commitment to nurturing creativity and excellence was evident in everything he did. He taught that it was possible to be a commanding leader while also treating everyone with genuine kindness and empathy, and his devotion to his craft and his students never wavered. Mark considered his thousands of students to be like family, and his influence continues to inspire new generations of musicians.

In honor of Mark’s legacy, the Mark Rubel Memorial Fund has been established. This fund will continue his mission by supporting emerging songwriters in realizing their potential, fostering a sense of community, and encouraging collaboration. Mark believed that through music, we have an opportunity to empower one another. The fund seeks to carry out that belief, providing resources that provide a space where songwriters can connect, create, and discover the transformative power of songs with an enthusiasm that shaped his life and countless others.
